Hiring a consultant to conduct preservation workshops for regional museum staff and volunteers and the purchase of preservation supplies for local history collections, archaeological artifacts, and collections related to life at an orphanage, which operated from 1889 to 1930.

This project is designed to plan, train, and implement the storage of significant historic L. C. Bates Museum collections that pertain to the history of Good Will -Hinckley Homes for Children, regional history artifacts, and cultural collections collected by the museum's founder. The objects are significant because they represent and illustrate the history of childcare in orphanages on a local and national level. We propose to hire object conservator Ron Harvey of Tuckerbrook Conservation to come to the museum for 2 1/2 day consultation and training sessions for staff and volunteers and a one day museum workshop for 35 regional museum staff on storing oversized and small objects. Following the recommendations of the conservator, we will house the unique 1889 to 1930 orphanage and cultural objects. The local cable access TV-7 will film and air a program of the workshop for a potential audience of 15,000 households.
