Archival Housing of Oversized Photographs

Funding supports the purchase of preservation storage equipment to rehouse oversize, panoramic photographs that document police training classes, officers killed in the line of duty, equipment and vehicles, and buildings from the late 1800s to mid-1970s. The request is based upon conservation assessments conducted in 2004 and 2008.

The Los Angeles Police Historical Society, a non-profit enterprise separate from the LAPD operates a full-time Museum that exhibits, collects and preserves the history of the LAPD. The photo collection includes more than 30,000 photos and negatives that date to the late 1800s. Most of the photographic collection was identified, conserved and rehoused in 2005. Approximately 300 oversized images were not rehoused due to a lack of proper housing furniture. Large flat files are requested to house these photos.
