Encyclopaedia Iranica is a major interdisciplinary research tool in the humanities for scholars and students in Middle Eastern, Central Asian, Caucasian, and Indian studies, and for non-specialists interested in Persian culture and related fields. It is at the same time a vehicle for the publication of original research or synthesis. The articles, each with careful documentation and extensive bibliography, are written by leading scholars from many different countries. We have been focusing since 2002 on electronic publishing and its technical aspects and in addition to improving our website?s search engine and metadata architecture (www.iranica.com), nearly 13 volumes have been published (a total of 86 fascicles plus 372 additional online articles). The present two-year application is for support to publish 1,600,000 words, or the equivalent of some 375 articles each year, as well as for continuing the enhancements to our database. |
