The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights submits this proposal for improvement and enrichment of the Kentucky Remembers! Carter G Woodson Human Rights Heritage Project targeting youth, families and teachers in Kentucky. An innovative youth empowerment program will allow 7 teams of participants to create a traveling exhibit documenting diverse and intertwined regional histories of struggles for human rights. A collective of murals, interactive website, and an unconventional Human Rights Heritage “textbook” based on oral history undertaken by youth will make up an accessible and engaging exhibit for youth. With a generous contribution from NEH of $36,943 (total cost $74563), we will create a model for historically based humanities programming. |
