Consultation with scholars to develop summer youth programs in 2007 in seven regions of the state about civil rights history in Kentucky.

The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights submits this proposal for improvement and enrichment of the Kentucky Remembers! Carter G Woodson Human Rights Heritage Project targeting youth, families and teachers in Kentucky. An innovative youth empowerment program will allow 7 teams of participants to create a traveling exhibit documenting diverse and intertwined regional histories of struggles for human rights. A collective of murals, interactive website, and an unconventional Human Rights Heritage “textbook” based on oral history undertaken by youth will make up an accessible and engaging exhibit for youth. With a generous contribution from NEH of $36,943 (total cost $74563), we will create a model for historically based humanities programming.
