The Italian-Americans, a four-hour documentary series, will chronicle four generations of Italian-American lives, from the massive late 19th century wave of immigration to the present. This great sweep of history will be told through the stories of Italian-American families -- their departures and reunions, their struggles to maintain their traditions while making their way in America, and their extraordinary contributions to American culture. Unique among 19th century immigrants for their ambivalence about America, the Italians' experience challenges our deep-rooted myths of "the melting pot" and offers surprising insights into immigration today. |
