Many Rivers to Cross: A History of the African American People

The production costs only of an eight-part series chronicling the African American experience from the early 1500s to the present.

Many Rivers to Cross: A History of the African American People is an eight-part, eight hour series that is currently scheduled for broadcast on national public television in 2013. As the first and only documentary film project of its kind, the series will chronicle the full sweep of the African American experience - from the early 1500s when the first slaves arrived on the North American mainland with the Spanish to 2008 when Barack Obama was elected as the United States' 44th President - to uncover the unique diversity of political opinions, social perspectives and ethnic origins that have defined and continue to define black culture and society.
