Development of a 60-minute documentary film exploring the history of relations between Africa and China.

Raymar Educational Films respectfully requests a development grant of $75,000 from the NEH Bridging Cultures Through Film Program to research, develop and script a 60-minute documentary, Africa?s Freedom Train and other China-Africa Tales. This hour-long HDTV film, designed for a general audience, will be produced for US television (i.e., PBS or others) international broadcasters, and secondary and university classrooms. Through individual stories set in Africa and China, the film will explore the history of Sino-African relations as well as the increasingly important economic, social and cultural ties between China and Africa today. Africa?s Freedom Train and other China-Africa Tales will help American audiences grasp the importance of the growing rapport between China and Africa, allowing us to examine how this evolving relationship impacts America?s role as a world power as well as our attitudes towards Africa, China and our shared future.
