Preservation of Humanities Collection at WIPR

The installation of dehumidifiers and the repair of windows and installation of doors damaged by Hurricane Maria that seal entrances and exits at the Puerto Rico Public Broadcasting Corporation Archive, whose collection includes audio and audiovisual recordings from the 1950s to the present documenting the history and culture of the island.

WIPR is the first public broadcasting station in Latin America and one of the first public stations in the US. WIPR's licensee, Puerto Rico Public Broadcasting Corporation, holds an archive through which valuable historical TV and radio contents are available to the public.  As a result of its experience with Hurricanes Irma and Maria, and foreseeing the danger represented by future tropical storms and hurricanes, the PRPBC proposes to engage with preservation consultant Jim Lindner to make critical decisions post-Hurricanes Irma & Maria, which may include the installation of dehumidifiers that can control humidity and repair windows and install doors that seal the entrances and exits of the different areas both inside and outside the PRPBC Archive.
