Title: Marygrove African American Authors Collection
Author: Frank D. Rashid
Author: Mary Lou Greene
Abstract: The Marygrove African American Authors Collection (MAAAC) is a digital online archive of materials generated by the Contemporary American Authors Lecture Series (CAALS) held on the campus of Marygrove College, now the Marygrove Conservancy, in Detroit, Michigan from 1989 to the present. The MAAAC was developed with the support of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and a partnership with the Detroit Historical Society (DHS). Lesson plans based on the archived materials accompany the collection. MAAAC authors are among the most noteworthy writers of our time and include MacArthur Fellows, National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize recipients, and US Poets Laureate. The MAAAC comprises photographs, video recordings, printed information, and other materials generated before and during each author’s visit. The major features of each year’s CAALS programming are all represented in the MAAAC. They include:
• A public lecture or reading by the visiting author
• A class session with the visiting author
• Classes or workshops
• Writing contests and awards
• Receptions and awards presentations
