Abstract: The critical edition of the De multiplicatione specierum is a reconstruction from complete transcription of five manuscripts. The author has also used extensively five additional manuscripts when further testimony was required. The fourteen other known manuscripts are either much later versions or contain only fragments. The critical edition of the De speculis comburentibus is based on the collation of three manuscripts (a fourth of the extant manuscripts was available but is sixteenth century and incomplete). The De multiplicatione specierum had been edited twice before: in 1733 as part of the Opus maius, and in 1897 separate from but along with that larger work. Both of these earlier editions were from single but different manuscripts. The De speculis comburentibus had been edited once before, in 1614.
