Abstract: Volume 2 of the Pinckney Statesmen digital edition covers the period Jun2 1792 through December 1798. Consisting of 1550 fully edited documents and an additional 2500 documents calendared with full location citation information provided, the volume covers the diplomatic careers of Thomas Pinckney as minister plenipotentiary to Great Britain 1792-1795 and his special mission to Spain and negotiation of the Pinckney Treaty, and of Charles Cotesworth Pinckney as minister plenipotentiary to France 1796-1798, expulsion by the French Directory and relocation to Amsterdam, and actions as head of the abortive "XYZ Affair" negotiations for a new treaty with France. The volume also includes documents related to Charles Pinckney's 2nd term as governor of South Carolina. The documents include a significant number of letters describing the experiences of Mary Stead Pinckney during her husband's service in France and Amsterdam.
