To demonstrate the need for a heightened awareness of foreign cultures and languages in the undergraduate curriculum. Four steps will be undertaken toward this end: (1) a testing of a national sample of college seniors to determine their global perceptions and language proficiencies, (2) a conference of educational, business and government leaders to discuss key issues in developing undergraduate programs with an emphasis on international issues; (3) an entire issue of Change Magazine devoted to this theme; and (4) a book concerned with the impact of language instruction and global problems on the current undergraduate curriculum.
