Development of up to four websites using primary documents and sources for the creation of teaching materials associated with Hawai'i's educational history standards and benchmarks. Funding will also support partnerships with established cultural organizations to expand HCH's outreach, teacher workshops that take advantage of and build upon national commemorative events and resources, and HCH's "Literature and Medicine: Humanities at the Heart of Health Care" and "Motheread" programs.
The Hawai'i Council for the Humanities (HCH) will coordinate a series of partnership agreements and contracts with trusted humanities groups and scholars to 1) created at least four web reference sites for K-12 teachers tied to primary sources found in the partner's archive, library or collections, with lesson plans and classroom activities linked to the Hawai'i state Department of Education history content standards and benchmarks; 2) continue and pursue partnerships that allow HCH to take a more active role in community programs, literary festivals, and educational programs, with the goal of extending such programs to hard-to-reach and at-risk communities, including bringing more programs to the islands of Maui, Kaua'i, Hawai'i, Moloka'i and Lana'i; 3) continuing partnerships with hospitals and health care professionals to do "Literature and Medicine" programs in Hawai'i; and 4) coordinating the primary council-conducted programs of the Council, history day and Motheread.
