To support a broad range of programming including Soul of the City for high school students, an international symposium focused on the humanities and climate change, public discussions on important topics for local communities, a community heritage project, television programs in the humanities and the Council's Resource Center.
The Humanities Council of Washington DC is the only District organization devoted to identifying, supporting, and showcasing D.C.'s humanities programs. The Councils programming creates educational, humanities-based experiences throughout the city that explore American ideals within a unique Washington context. The Humanities content that is explored in the Councils programs include history, ethics, civic discussion, jurisprudence, performing arts, religion, leadership and cultural and ethnic studies. The Council strives to form partnerships within the community to further the Humanities presence in the city that harnesses our complementary assets to enrich the quality of life, foster intellectual stimulation and cross-cultural understanding, promote appreciation of the humanities, and strengthen communities in all neighborhoods of the District.
