Nancy L. Carpenter (Project Director: November 2003 to April 2008)
Endowment for humanities programming on local history and culture in a public television system.
We will create the $2 million Endowment for Kentucky Productions to support KET's Kentucky Stories, a major new initiative for humanities projects. The endowment will provide a stable, permanent base of funding from which to leverage grants supporting production of television and multi-media projects. It will enable KET to maintain regular, ongoing relationships with a community of scholarly advisors. Kentucky Stories will enable KET to increase the size and range of humanities projects and their educational adaptations and to bring the state's history and culture to a larger statewide, regional and national audience. In doing so, it will further the goals of the We the People initiative. All of the humanities projects encompassed by the Kentucky Stories initiative will be supported by the endowment's available interest. Each project will be identified as NEH-supported. This initiative builds on KET's partnerships with scholars, its alliances with educational institutions, its use of cultural programs to address educational needs, and its long commitment to technological innovation.
