The Humanities Center at Carnegie Mellon University: Integrating the Humanities

FAIN: CH-50146-05

Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, PA 15213-3815)
David R. Shumway (Project Director: May 2004 to November 2008)

Endowment for external and internal fellowships, a research seminar, and visiting lectures in a humanities center.

We seek to provide an endowment for the Humanities Center at Carnegie Mellon University. Center's programs are interdisciplinary, and are designed to show the relevance of the humanities to real world problems. The endowment would suport two external fellows and two internal fellows each year. These fellowships would enable the establishment of a research seminar that would include selected other participants from the CMU community as well as additional visiting scholars. High-profile visiting speakers who will attract undergraduate audiences will also be supported. The result will be a better intergration of the humanities on campus and increased national and international visibility for Carnegie Mellon's Humanities departments.
