Establishment of a National Seminar on Japanese Intellectual History

For the establishment of a national seminar on japanese intellectual history for graduate students and scholars. The purpose of such a seminar would be to serve as a training ground for graduate students and to function as a training ground for graduate students and to function as a sustained exploration into questions relating to Japanese poltical and social thought from early modern to modern times. The proposed seminar would meet intitially for three years (at six weekend sessions a year), a would move on a yearly basis among the following three institutiions: the University of Chicago, the University of Rochester, and the University of California.
