FAIN: FA-10770-74

Barbara F. Charles
Unaffiliated independent scholar

To expand available knowledge about American Carrousels to aid in the preservation and restoration of existing machines, and to investigate inspiration for the carvings on the machine which could illuminate the thinking of Amercian folk artists in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. To date, the project has involved photography of Carrousels and research on carvers. A comprehensive book on the subject will be published and a plan developed for a traveling exhibit.
