To study the processes of acculturation among the Mayan Indians of Ywcatan, Mexico, during the late pre-Columbian and early colonial periods. The goal of this research is an ethnohistorical case study, which will examine acculturation as a process, rather than a product; and will analyze the dynamics of culture change within the native society prior to colonization as a major factor in affecting adaptations under European rule.
