Study to interpret the main patterns of the European theatre of the last fifteen years, that is, to be concerned mainly with the techniques of presentation because the major figures of the European theatre are directors. Grantee wishes to make the European theatre more accessible to Americans creating some awareness of the European sense of theatrical community, dealing not merely with director's techniques but also with political and intellectual contexts and with the theatre of fact and other signs of new drama.
