I am requesting a fellowship from the National Endowment that will allow me to complete the initial work on a critical edition of the Latin text of the "Passion of Saints Perpetua and Felicity". My edition will comprise a codicological description of all the manuscripts, a stemma showing the genetic relationship of the manuscripts, the identification of a best text and the collation of the Latin manuscripts. This work combines intensive codicological study and traditional editing techniques with the additional application of XML coding for the electronic phase of the project. Once I have completed all the hands-on manuscript study, recovered illegible readings, determined the best text and worked out the stemma I will turn to the collation.
