Christian Revolutionaries in 20th-Century Britain: Peace, Poverty, and Global Citizenship

This project examines the intertwined lives of six 20th-century Christian revolutionaries who engaged in substantive and profoundly consequential spiritual and political work as leaders of grass roots campaigns for health, welfare and education in the slums of London and as Christian humanitarians and anti-colonial activists in Britain’s far flung empire. Their vision of "reconciliation" as a path to social justice and "global citizenship" as essential to living ethically in the world constitute an important but as yet unwritten chapter in the history of social ethics, Christianity, and human rights in the 20th century.
