To pursue a study of the development of the English landscape garden in the late 18th century. Study will develop its relationship to the concepts of Nature and History as philosophical ideals. In the minds of the 18th century artists and intellectuals who designed and wrote about these gardens, the concepts of nature and history represented visions of a place in which human experience and the landscape intersected like map co-ordinates at some ideal point--the mythic earthly paradise.
