The Poetics of Revolt: Surrealism and the Works of Octavio Paz

To study the works of Octavio Paz in relation to the poetics of Andre Breton, Guillaume Appolinaire, and other leading surrealist poets. The poetry would be studied in terms of the writings of Bergson, Bachelard, Todorov and Jakobson. There will also be a translation project of some of Paz's untranslated works or of another hispanophone or franciphone writer.
