To consider ways in which popular and folk arts have been used in the past, and might be used in the future, in the study of American culture. Concentrations will be the colonial experience, the westward movement, and the "Jazz Age" of the twenties. Picture of a culture derived from study of its "high arts" will be contrasted with that derived from study of its popular and folk arts.
