To examine three pairs of writers (John Webster and Cyril Taurneur; Isben and Strindberg; O'Neill and Miller) whose plays reflect the loss of values in the late Renaissance, the early modern period, and the contemporary age, in order to describe the inapporopriateness of the tragic mode in depicting the metaphysical crisis caused by the lack of faith in given periods of Western Literature.
