Dialect and Social Isolation in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey

To make an historical and cultural investigation into the pattern of extreme social isolation which the people of the New Jersey Pine Barrens have maintained since the Revolutionary War Period. In addition, the project will examine the correspondence between the American English of the late 18th century and early 19th century in the area with the current Piney dialect.
