' To collect a series of life histories on the island of Aruha, Netherlands Antilles. Aruba is the site of a large oil refinery and has seen in the past generation a large influx of migrants from the U.S. Europe and other islands in the West Indies. As a result, it is a "small", insular society which is a microcosm of the larger processes of industrialization, urbanization, and "modernization" which are at work elsewhere in the Third World.
