For my NEH project I will do further fieldwork, research, and writing devoted to a chapter of a projected book focusing on representations of the Anasazi in art and literature. From April through May 2004, I intend to focus on Chaco Canyon National Historical Park in northwestern New Mexico, the spiritual and ceremonial center of Anasazi culture. I will arrange to do research and fieldwork at the park for about a month through the "sabbatical in the parks" program hosted by the national park service. Based on this work I will then draft a chapter on Chaco integrating my personal experiences with information on Euroamerican representations of the Anasazi ruins from the 1800s to the present.
