On Religious Liberty: Selections from the Works of Roger Williams

FAIN: FT-52323-04

James Calvin Davis
President and Fellows of Middlebury College (Middlebury, VT 05753-6004)

The Puritan Roger Williams (c.1603-1683) pioneered the battle for religious freedom in America. This project will assemble in a single volume a collection of some of the most significant passages from his writings on freedom of conscience. Preceding the collection will be an introductory essay that will provide biographical background, an interpretive framework for understanding the conceptual development of Williams’s thought, and the historical evidence for his importance to discussions of religious freedom in American history and today.
