To accomplish much needed research on the economic decision-making process of West African herdsmen, placing economic decisions in a framework of socio-cultural values. To better understand the courses of the profound ecological crisis besetting the West African herdsmen— overgrazing, drought, and starvation--in the light of their herd management system. Field research will be conducted for several months with the Fuloni herdsmen in the Tahova Region of Niger.
