Consultation to plan a website, a small traveling exhibition, and public programs about slavery on the Texas-Louisiana frontier using the site of the Levi-Jordan Plantation in Brazoria County, Texas, as a case study.

Journey to Freedom (a dynamic online exhibit, traveling exhibit and public program package) explores the ways in which freedom was created and constrained by communities on the last “frontier of slavery” in Texas and Louisiana - focusing on the Levi-Jordan Plantation in Brazoria County, Texas. Through compelling stories, images and unique artifacts, freedom will emerge as an ideal defined within a crucible of political, social and economic forces. Consultation funds will support a pubic symposium, a round-table working session, audience research and a review of interpretive resources. This process will result in a preliminary narrative framework and interpretive plan informed by scholarship, best museum practices and community input.
