Consultation and Training Workshop for the T. J. Collins Architectural Drawing Collection

FAIN: PA-51540-06

Historic Staunton Foundation (Staunton, VA 24401-4222)
Deneen Dameron Brannock (Project Director: May 2005 to January 2007)

A workshop to train the staff and volunteers of an organization dedicated to the preservation of historic buildings in the care of architectural drawings and the creation of a guide to collection care by the consultant who conducts the workshop.

This project will help preserve the T. J. Collins Architectural Collection by providing hands-on training to staff and select volunteers in proper conservation treatment methods for the historic architectural drawings. This significant collection spans nearly 100 years of architectural design, from T. J. Collins' initial work in the early 1890s, through his sons' and grandson's work through the mid-20th century. The Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts will provide a professional paper conservator to instruct Historic Staunton Foundation staff and volunteers in proper material identification and conservation treatment to accomplish Priority 1 (surface cleaning and flattening) as recommended in their 2005 Conservation Survey.
