Susan R. Boyd (Project Director: November 2017 to October 2019)

The cost of a contractor to replace floor boards and paint them to match the existing floor.

This project would repair damage caused by Hurricane Irma to the front porch of a c. 1910 Florida Vernacular house, the home of American poet Laura (Riding) Jackson for more than 50 years.  The front porch of a “cracker” house is a defining feature.  The building, which contains original furnishings and personal items owned by Jackson, is used on a regular basis by local writers, school groups, and other community organizations, and it is open to the public for tours.  The Jackson family brought it back into use in 1943; it is an excellent example of this type of architecture in its original form.  The Foundation has engaged a licensed contractor who has previously worked on the house to complete the repairs.
