Museum of Flight Foundation (Seattle, WA 98108-4097)
Ali Lane (Project Director: January 2022 to March 2024)
Nicole Davis (Co Project Director: August 2022 to March 2024)

A digital preservation consultation that will result in a digital collection development policy, a digital preservation plan, and staff training in best practices for digital preservation.

This grant would support an assessment of the technical ecosystem that supports The Museum of Flight’s Digital Collections, which is need of upgrades to better meet professional standards related to the management, access, and preservation of our digital assets. We are keenly aware that the underlying technical ecosystem for our Digital Collections (DC) has not kept pace with the rapid growth in data or our evolving technical needs. To address these problems, the Collections Department will partner with Lyrasis to conduct an assessment of our DC ecosystem. Two consultants from Lyrasis, Leigh Grinstead and Carson Block, will work with Museum staff on the two-phased consultation which will take a total of about nine months over two years. This process will result in a Strategic Technology Plan for the Museum’s digital collections that we will be able to implement over the next three to five years, ensuring the long-term stability of the Museum’s digitized and born-digital assets.
