The
development of a collections care policy and environmental monitoring program,
as well as the purchase of environmental monitoring equipment and supplies, for
a collection documenting the mining industry in the United States.
Support for the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum planning which includes hiring a consultant to write and implement an Environmental Monitoring Program and develop a Preservation and Collections Care Policy. With the professional recommendations, the Museum will purchase lead and asbestos testing kits and install analog data loggers for environmental monitoring in an effort to preserve and care for the Museum's collections long term.

Abstract: "Further bolstering these efforts, they have also been awarded a Preservation Assistance Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. This grant will provide essential support for the conservation of the museum’s extensive collection of mining artifacts and historical documents, reinforcing the museum’s role as a custodian of mining history."
