Jennifer Yunginger Madden (Project Director: May 2007 to September 2008)
The purchase of storage cabinets and shelving for large objects in the institution's American history collection, including carousel figures, carved birds, ship models, weathervanes, furniture, and tools.
The Preservation Assistance Grant would support the preservation of Heritage Museums & Gardens' collection of large three-dimensional objects through the purchase of archival storage cabinets, shelving and pallets. The American History Museum will be undergoing a major renovation in 2008 to add new exhibition space on the main level, as well as increase collections storage space in the lower level. This new collections storage space is slated to become large three-dimensional object storage, a long-identified need of the museum. This grant will be used to purchase 2 archival-quality cabinets, 4 high capacity decking units and 8 polyethylene pallets for these objects. These items would provide adequate storage for these items for the first time in the museum's history.
