FAIN: PG-50549-09

ONE Institute/International Gay and Lesbian Archives (West Hollywood, CA 90069)
Gregory L. Williams (Project Director: May 2008 to November 2009)

The purchase of archival quality metal shelving to accommodate 350 linear feet of primary sources documenting gay and lesbian history. The project follows on recommendations from a 2006 preservation needs assessment conducted by the Conservation Center for Art and Historical Artifacts.

The ONE Archives Shelving & Preservation Project will be an essential step in addressing our recent NEH Preservation Assessment report by purchasing archival shelving for our manuscript and archival collections. This project hopes to preserve archival materials in a stable environment for humanities scholars. The ONE National Gay and Lesbian Archives is the oldest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) organization in the United States and its collections consist of some of the most important humanities collections in the United States on this subject. The two million item ONE collection includes 50,000 subject files (nearly 800 feet); 30,000 books; 8000 serial or periodical titles; 1800 feet of community organization archives, personal papers and manuscript collections; 500,000 photographs; and audio/visual collections of more than 1,500 films, 3,000 videos and 1000 audiotapes.
