To produce a two-volume standard work on American Fold Medicine, as a tributary study to a much larger enterprise--a multi-volume Dictionary of American Popular Beliefs and Superstitions. Collecting for the larger project has been carried on intensively for over 25 years; the included folk medical items number at least 75,000, each on a card or slip, classified and identified as to source. These holdings need to be balanced by items from medical and other scientific sources. From the raw data will be produced a work with annotation, commentary, and cross-referencing.
