Preparation for publication of volumes 21 and 22 of the papers of the first Federal Congress, to create an index for entire edition, and to close the work of the project. (30 months)
The First Federal Congress Project (FFCP) at The George Washington University (GWU) has publication of the 22 volume Documentary History of the First Federal Congress, 1789-91 (DHFFC) as its primary goal. The FFCP also serves as a research center on this most important and productive U.S. Congress and promotes the use of the documentary record in education. During this grant period the staff will complete the final editing work on volumes 21 & 22; convey the manuscript and electronic text to the JHU Press, complete the proofing and checking of the page proof, and index the two volume set. Staff will also work with the JHU Press on improving the quality of the online DHFFC through adding a cumulative index to support the browse function and on finding a way to make the electronic DHFFC available for free. Staff will make plans for the closedown of the project and disposition of its files and begin that process.
