The Uncensored Boris Godunov: The Case for Alexander Pushkin's Original Comedy (Book)Title: The Uncensored Boris Godunov: The Case for Alexander Pushkin's Original Comedy
Author: Chester Dunning with Caryl Emerson, Sergei Fomichev, Lidiia Lotman, and Antony Wood
Abstract: This book, the product of our NEH grant, makes the case for treating the original version of Pushkin's famous play (Comedy about Tsar Boris and Grishka Otrep'ev) as the text Pushkin intended to publish and to put on stage. We also argue that the well-known version of the play, Boris Godunov, published in 1831, was the product of censorship, not the growth of Pushkin's aesthetic sensibilities.

“The Tsar’s Red Pencil: Nicholas I and Censorship of Pushkin’s Boris Godunov” (Article)Title: “The Tsar’s Red Pencil: Nicholas I and Censorship of Pushkin’s Boris Godunov”

Abstract: This article makes the case for Tsar Nicholas I as the real censor of Pushkin's "Comedy about Tsar Boris and Grishka Otrep'ev" and for the tsar also being responsible for the well-known, censored version of Pushkin's play published in 1831.
