A collaboration between Ball State University, Indiana,
and the Gallia-Vinton Educational Service Center, Ohio, to provide an
educational program and fieldtrip to Philadelphia for Ohio teachers and
students to learn more about the Declaration of Independence and the American
Revolution.
The signers of the Declaration of Independence risked their lives, their homes, and their families by daring to revolt against Great Britian. If they had been captured by the British, the basic rights and liberties Americans expect in a court trial would not have been available to them without the protections guaranteed in the Constitution’s Bill of Rights. In this exploration of the 250th anniversary of American freedom teachers help students to realize that they become producers of knowledge and content creators when they explore the humanities. Teachers and students gather and interpret information for new audiences. Furthermore, students, teachers, and audience members realize that the American Revolution was not a forgone conclusion, it was controversial, and America could have easily lost the war.
