An exhibition and symposium about the strategic
importance and integration of New Orleans and adjacent formerly French regions
into the United States in the late 18th—early 19th centuries, held at the New
Orleans Foundation for Francophone Cultures (Nous) in New Orleans, Louisiana.
‘One Single Place’: New Orleans, Louisiana, and the Shaping of the Early American Republic (1795-1815) is a historical exhibition that celebrates the founding of the early American Republic and the integration of New Orleans and the Mississippi River Valley into the bourgeoning country. The goal of the exhibition is to explore an overlooked aspect of the forming of the American Republic, which is the rapid integration of previous “outposts” founded by France and Spain into a central part of the American nation, and the effects those places had on transforming the perception of being American. This exhibition, featuring reproductions of navigation maps, urban plans, and architectural renderings from the Historic New Orleans Collection and Library of Congress, will be presented in New Orleans from December 2025 to March 2026 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
