The planning for and creation of a monograph, curricular and evaluative resources, and faculty professional development opportunities for integrating the humanities and arts into education in the medical professions.

The Association of American Medical Colleges believes that by integrating the humanities and arts into education and professional development, we can better prepare physicians to practice humanistic medicine in the 21st century. This project builds upon and expands prior efforts, by 1) optimizing the Humanities and Arts Integration Committee as it advises on these efforts and supports the development of the monograph describing the humanities and arts foundations for the education of future physicians; 2) designing and developing a robust digital collection or a modern interactive textbook to aid educators in their efforts to integrate humanities and arts into their teaching practices; 3) designing and piloting a new professional development program to support the scholarship of program evaluation; and 4) offering small grants to faculty pursuing educational scholarship that advances the integration of humanities and arts in health professions education.
