A two-year interdisciplinary faculty project to develop four undergraduate courses integrating humanities into engineering education with a focus on Latin America.

In an era of increasing global interdependence and technology-driven solutions to human and environmental crises, Missouri S&T recognizes that college students of all majors must acquire the ability to effectively integrate the intellectual skills cultivated by the humanities with STEM literacy to analyze and improve the ways in which science and technology impact society and the environment. In order to address these needs, the departments of Arts, Languages, and Philosophy; English and Technical Communication; and History and Political Science propose a Humanities Connection project centered upon integrating the liberal arts into engineering education. In particular, we propose building humanities components into S&T’s already strong and well-established study abroad, humanitarian engineering programs in Latin America.
