Best Teacher Practices Development Workshop Based on the Exhibit, "Race: Are We So Different?"

FAIN: AZ-50035-11

American Anthropological Association, Inc. (Arlington, VA 22201-3386)
Yolanda T. Moses (Project Director: July 2011 to September 2013)

The American Anthropological Association, headquartered in Washington, DC, requests an Emergency Grant of $25,000 to support a two-day workshop for a group of 8-10 middle school and high school teachers who have worked with teaching materials either directly from or based on the content of the "Race: Are We So Different?" exhibit and website. The attendees will help to update the website and other teaching materials that accompany the exhibit, and to design new curricula about race and racism for middle and high school learning environments. The workshop will take place in the Fall of 2011 at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC, where the exhibit is currently on display for six months. The requested funds will cover travel and lodging costs for the invited teachers and the Race Project Director and Project Manager, as well as the costs of a staff person to coordinate the logistics of the two-day workshop at the NMNH, and a webmaster to revamp and update the portion of the website where the updated educational materials will be housed.
