Michael L. Gillette (Project Director: March 2004 to September 2008)

A summer institute for teachers and publications on the US Congress and American history, a special grant opportunity for public programs, exhibits and speakers on American history and culture and a major public lecture.

Humanities Texas will respond to “We the People” by hosting a summer institute for teachers on Congress and American history; distributing educational resources that explore the nation’s history and offer new perspectives on democracy; requesting proposals for public programs which advance knowledge of our nation’s defining principles; creating online exhibits illuminating the history and values of the American people; expanding our speakers’ bureau to include scholars whose presentations relate to American identity; and offering a lecture modeled after the "Heroes of History" lecture.
