Chautauqua performances, lectures, seminars, symposia, classroom activities and technology projects on the period 1898-1999 to increase awareness of the shared history of the Northern Mariana Islands and the United States, foster understanding of the documents that define the Commonwealth and explore current issues related to democratic principles.

This program comprises four projects that will examine the shared history of the Northern Mariana Islands (NMI) and the United States during the 100 year period (ca. 1898-1999) some historians refer to as the “American Century” and how this shared history has shaped the social, cultural, economic, and political life in the NMI today. These projects include: American Foreign Policy; Guam-NMI Relations; the Road to Commonwealth; and Constitutional Awareness. All will be open to the public on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota including students from elementary school to college.
