U.S. Virgin Islanders: A People's Continued Quest for Self-Governance

FAIN: BC-50283-05

Virgin Islands Humanities Council (St. Thomas, VI 00802)
Oswin Sewer (Project Director: May 2005 to July 2007)

A "We the People" webpage, a Chautauqua Series, a lecture on women's role in self-governance and a panel discussion that explores the history of the Island's four constitutional conventions.

As we, the people of the Virgin Islands, continue our quest for self-determination by preparing for another constitutional convention in 2006, it is critical that our citizens are educated about issues that advance their understanding of self-determination. To deepen public awareness, valuable information will be disseminated to targeted groups: school age youth, adults, and grassroots community. To this end, the Virgin Islands Humanities Council is requesting $30,980 in order to plan and sponsor a “We the People” web page, a Virgin Islands Chautauqua Series, a lecture and panel discussion.
