Brenna L. Gerhardt (Project Director: May 2009 to July 2012)

Funding will support Plain Thinking, a public programming initiative that includes the Institute for Philosophy in Public Life, Dakota Discussions, a Chautauqua training institute, and a grant program for community-based humanities projects and media projects on American history and culture.

The Plain Thinking project is a multifaceted approach to humanities in North Dakota. The NDHC plans to bring book and film discussions to communities across the state, to support a major public lecture in philosophy that will be broadcast on television and radio, to offer competitive challenge grants to communities that foster grass roots humanities programming as well as large regional media projects, and finally to offer a training institute that will train new chautauqua scholars.
